Ruth Blanco - Marketing and Communications Director, WISE
Ruth Blanco joined WISE in June 2018.
Ruth has led Communications teams across many corporate sectors including Pharmaceuticals, advertising and property. Her latest role was building and leading the Communications team for Roche Diagnostics.
With 20 years experience in Communications, she knows the value of clear, targeted and strategic Marketing and Communication to drive any business or organisation forwards.
She has a true passion for proving how diversity and equality works for all businesses, and is thrilled to have joined WISE to make a real difference in this area.
Lord Callanan - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility)
Lord Callanan was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on 14 February 2020.
He was Minister of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union from 27 October 2017 to 31 January 2020. He was educated at Newcastle Polytechnic where he gained a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in electrical and electronic engineering.
Lord Callanan was a Conservative Councillor on Tyne and Wear County Council between 1983 and 1986 and Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council between 1987 and 1996.
He was a Member of the European Parliament for the North East England constituency from 1999, re-elected in 2004 and 2009.
He became the leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists group from 2011-2014.
Lord Callanan was created a Life Peer on 24 September 2014 taking the title Baron Callanan, of Low Fell in the County of Tyne and Wear.
He was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for Transport between June and October 2017.
Ellen Daniels - Chief Executive, British Compressed Gases Association
Ellen has a background in public affairs and strategy, having graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Politics and Modern History. After working for in both the UK and European Parliaments, she then spent two years at a public affairs company working with clients in the energy, education and health sectors.
Ellen then went in-house and joined the British Coatings Federation as their public affairs and policy lead, where her remit covered both UK and EU political and regulatory issues. During this time, she became Chair of the REACH Cross Sector Group, a group of trade associations, professional institutes and businesses that represents downstream users of chemicals, a role that included leading delegations to meet with key Government Ministers, as well as giving her the opportunity to give evidence on the impact of Brexit on the chemicals industry during an Environmental Audit Committee hearing in Parliament.
After spending nearly five years working at the BCF, Ellen joined the BCGA in February 2020 as their CEO, and over the last 12 months has tackled some of the major issues affecting the gases industry, such as Covid-19 and the end of the Brexit Transition Period.
Rich Gottwald - President, Compressed Gas Association
Rich Gottwald joined the Compressed Gas Association as President and CEO in 2018. CGA's mission is to promote the ever-improving safe, secure, and environmentally responsible manufacture, transportation, storage, transfilling, and disposal of industrial, medical, and food gases and their containers.
Before joining CGA, Rich served as President and CEO of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals where he realigned the organization to be a unified voice to protect existing markets and to grow new business for its members. Before APSP, Rich held senior management positions in several trade associations including the International Sign Association, Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, the Plastics Pipe Institute, and the Society of the Plastics Industry.
He began his career with Dow Chemicals as an application engineer. Rich holds a BS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). He lives in Washington, DC.
Graeme Precious - Principal Consultant, Carbon and Energy Team, SLR Consulting
Graeme is a Principal Consultant in the Carbon and Energy team at SLR. He has over fifteen years' experience in consulting across many areas of energy and carbon reporting across a range of sectors. He currently works with a number of organisations in the supporting their development of emission reduction targets and has delivered webinars on areas such as net zero reporting, science-based targets and the UK ETS scheme, to trade bodies including the Food & Drink federation and the Chemical Industries Association.
David Hopper - TSC5 Chair
David Hopper is a regular presenter at BCGA conferences and familiar to many of you. He is the Head of Safety , Quality and Environment at Air Liquide UK Ltd and the longstanding chairman of TSC5.
A chartered chemist with more than 40 years experience in the gases industry.
Phil Kornbluth - Founder & President, Kornbluth Helium Consulting
Phil Kornbluth is the founder and President of Kornbluth Helium Consulting, LLC, a helium-focused consultancy that advises clients on all commercial aspects of the Global Helium Business.
Phil is recognized as one of the world's foremost commercial experts in the Global Helium Business. He has been employed by several leading industrial gas companies over the last 39 years, including The BOC Group, plc (BOC), the Matheson Gas subsidiary of Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) and Global Gases Group FZE and has worked in various roles related to the Helium Business for the last 37 years. While at both BOC and TNSC, Phil held executive positions that included general management and P&L responsibility for their global helium businesses. As VP, Global Helium at BOC, Phil led BOC's Helium Business to a co-#1 worldwide position in the industry. Phil has been a frequent speaker on helium-related topics at industry conferences, has contributed to and authored numerous helium-related articles and has made important contributions to U.S. helium legislation passed in 1996 and 2013.
Kornbluth holds a BS in Economics degree from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and received a Masters in Business Administration degree from Rider University.
Amanda Lyne - Managing Director, ULEMCo Ltd
Amanda has over 20 years' experience in the hydrogen and fuel cell technology industry, having previously founded ACAL Energy and working through her consultancy business Burgundy Gold Ltd as a specialist in the commercialisation of clean tech businesses. Her career spanning over 30 years includes various positions at ICI Chemicals and Polymers, particularly Chlor Alkali, which produces hydrogen as a bi-product of the chlorine production process.
She has been a Director of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and is currently Deputy Chair of UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association. She co-founded Liverpool based ULEMCo in 2014 as a spin out from automotive engineering firm Revolve Technologies, to commercialise intellectual property and capability in hydrogen combustion engine technology. The company converts vehicles, having started with diesel Ford Transit vans, to enable them to run on commercially available hydrogen. The technology allows vehicle fleet managers to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions to ultra-low levels.
Alongside various partners, ULEMCo already supports a fleet of vehicles across a range of hydrogen hubs in the UK. The company is targeting commercial fleet conversions to grow the market significantly over the next 18 months, and then expand into other vehicle types over the longer term. Its growth plans include creating a hydrogen re-fuelling network, to capitalise on the existing local infrastructure for this ‘green' fuel.
James Routledge - Founder, Sanctus
James is the founder of Sanctus, who are on a mission to inspire people to work on their mental health like their physical health and put the world's first mental health gym's on the high street.
Sanctus partner with businesses to proactively support the mental health of their employees and James is writing a book on 'Mental Health at Work" with Penguin.
Andy Webb - TSC4 Chair
Andy Webb is Air Products European Technical and Regulatory Manager. Prior to this role, Andy was Deputy General Secretary of the European Industrial Gases Association based in Brussels.
Since January 2021, Andy has been Chair of TSC 4.
A Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with more than 40 years' experience of working in the gases industry globally.
With the continued uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic, local lockdowns and travel, as well as so many unknown factors that may impact the way in which the Annual Conference can be held, BCGA have made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone its next physical conference until Thursday 28 April 2022.

BCGA Conference 2019Our BCGA Conference 2019 event was held at the Marriott Hotel, Worsley Park in Manchester on Thursday 11 April 2019 and brought together around 150 delegates for a packed schedule of presentations including Cyber security and how to hack a smart home by Tony Gee and security threats and the gases sector from NaCTSO. The day was concluded with a truly motivational talk from Claire Lomas who became a paraplegic as a result of a horse riding accident in 2007. The conference was followed by a drinks reception and evening meal with entertainment from comedian Robbie Glen. BCGA Conference 2018The 2018 conference was held on Thursday 19 April 2018 at Oulton Hall, Rothwell Lane, Oulton, Leeds. 130+ delegates attended another packed schedule of presentations including talks on Brexit, Biomethane, Whole-body cryotherapy, Powering the future with Hydrogen and closing the conference with keynote speaker Dr Pixie McKenna delivering an interesting and educational talk. BCGA Conference 2017The 2017 annual conference was held on Thursday 6 April 2017 at The Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Worsley Park, Manchester. Over 130 delegates attended an exciting and varied programme of industry news which included inspiring key note speaker Brian Jones talking about his non-stop trip around the world in a balloon.This was followed by a dinner reception including evening entertainment from The Black Sheikhs Band. BCGA Conference 2014
The Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Worsley Park, Manchester hosted the 2014 BCGA conference on 10 April 2014. The conference featured a wide-ranging programme of speakers and papers covering progress in the areas of environment, alternative fuels, food and beverages, misuse of drugs.
BCGA Conference 2013
The conference was held at Oulton Hall, Leeds on 18 April 2013 and was perhaps best summed up by three words: safety, energy and enthusiasm. 135 delegates attended a full programme with topics such as Dangerous Goods Security, Cylinders in Fires and an informed and high-profile presentation from the Right Honourable Michael Portillo.
BCGA Conference 2012
The BCGA annual conference was held at Oulton Hall, Leeds on 19 April 2012. The conference focused on many aspects of safe working practices within the gas industry and included a talk from Stephen Carver titled 'The Battle of Britain'. The conference was followed by a drinks reception and dinner. The following morning a golf event was organised.
BCGA Conference 2011
The BCGA 2011 conference took place on 7 April 2011 at The Marriot Hotel & Country Club, Worsley Park, Manchester. The programme of speakers included talks on EIGA developments, Acetylene in Fires, Gas Cylinders and Regulation and a key note talk from David Bunting.
