Guidance for the Storage of Gas Cylinders in the Workplace. Revision 3: 2005.
Defines the principles of safe practice for the storage of gases in cylinders and pressurised containers for cryogenic liquids of not more than 1,000 litres. This Guidance Note is intended for users, distributors and stockists of cylinder gases. Revision 3 incorporates new and revised legislative references, and deals with issues arising from the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).

Safe Cylinder Handling and the Application of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations to Gas Cylinders. Revision 1 : 2005
Guidance Note GN3 defines the principles of safe practice for users when handling and moving cylinders, provides a basic understanding of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations as relating to gas cylinders and offers specific guidance to managers and their staff in handling cylinders containing compressed, dissolved and liquefied gases at work places.

GN3 includes a summary of the duties of employers and employees under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002 with regard to the handling of gas cylinders by users. It also takes account of HSE's revised Guidance L23 on the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended in 2004) and of HSE's Research Report 228 Review of the risks associated with pushing and pulling heavy loads.

Describes methods to prevent and detect internal corrosion of gas cylinders. Includes measures to prevent contamination by customer processes, and methods of moisture and corrosion detection.

The Safe Use of Individual Portable or Mobile Cylinder Gas Supply Equipment: Revision 2: 2008
Provides guidance on the safe use, inspection and maintenance of individual cylinder gas supplies, the gas being controlled by a single cylinder mounted regulator, which is used to deliver industrial cylinder gases to gas using equipment. Does not cover toxic or corrosive gases.

The Application of the Confined Spaces Regulations to the Drinks Dispense Industry: Revision 1 - 2009
Addresses the requirement under the Confined Spaces Regulations for operators of drinks dispense equipment to carry out an assessment of the risk to their employees arising from the possible escape of the gas. Includes an easy-to-use chart classifying the risk as acceptable, medium, or high and gives necessary actions resulting from the assessment.

Revision 2 - 2007
This Guidance Note addresses the risk assessment of situations where inert gas use could give rise to asphyxiant atmospheres. Accidents causing injury or even death occur as a result of inadequate controls, and the document is a vital tool in minimising the probability of such events.

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) put obligations on site operators where oxidising or flammable gases are used or stored. This document explains these obligations in detail and presents model risk assessments for typical installations within the scope of DSEAR. It should therefore be of direct interest to any organisation which manufactures, uses, stores or distributes flammable or oxidant gases

Production, Storage, Transport and Supply of Gases for use in Food: 2003
Provides advice to producers and suppliers of food gases on how to comply with the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995, including other associated Regulations. Companies that supply gases for food use are defined in this Guidance Note as food (gas) businesses. The information contained will help them to meet their legal obligations and to ensure food safety. The Guidance Note includes coverage of the production and supply of food gases in bulk, or in cylinders and other transportable receptacles. There is also coverage of dry ice production and supply, and of the supply or use of on-site gas generators.
