Attending BCGA meetings

Funny how myths and misconceptions grow, isn’t it? – It has become apparent that some members think they have to apply or be invited to engage with some of our Committees, so just to set the record straight:-

BCGA works well only through the hard work which members contribute at Technical Sub-Committees (TSC’s) and we stress that such efforts are much appreciated.

Any paid up member, full or associate, has the right to attend any TSC or to receive its minutes as a "Corresponding member" (though there are provisions to exclude members who have not paid their dues or are disruptive).
And at such meetings, where matters come to a vote, then all attending members (no proxies) have an equal vote, including Associate members, with the Chairperson having a casting vote if needed.

The TSC’s report into the Technical Committee (TC), which I Chair and where attendance is by the Chairs of TSC’s and a couple of invited others.

And in turn, TC reports to the BCGA Council, which is the formal board of the Company and has responsibility for overseeing the general workings of the association, finances and ensuring good governance and legal compliance. The Council members tend to be senior people within their own companies.

Then there is also the Conference Committee, who’s membership is found by a system of proposals, invitations and arm-levers! New players with ideas for our Conference are always welcome here.

So, if any member wishes to engage with any TSC, or propose someone willing to work on Conference Committee or even Council, then please let me know.
