Catalogue of gas container marks used by BCGA members and their inspection bodies. Revision 6: 2018
This document provides a list of the recognised gas container test marks used by BCGA members and their inspection bodies during an inspection and test.
The application of the confined spaces regulations to the drinks dispense industry. Revision 2: 2015
Beverage gases and their associated dispense equipment are often located in a cellar, this may be a confined space. If a confined space, then the Confined Spaces Regulations require operators of drinks dispense equipment to carry out an assessment of the risk to their employees arising from the possible escape of the gas. This document includes an easy-to-use assessment procedure specifically for use in a cellar, classifying the risk as tolerable, medium, or high, then gives any necessary actions resulting from the assessment.
The management of risk when using gases in enclosed workplaces. Revision 4: 2018
Provides guidance that can be used in the assessment of risk associated with gases in enclosed workplaces, to help identify where hazardous atmospheres may occur and to advise on control measures that may be appropriate.
DSEAR Risk Assessment. 2008
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) put obligations on site operators where oxidising or flammable gases are used or stored. This document explains these obligations in detail and presents model risk assessments for typical installations within the scope of DSEAR. It should therefore be of direct interest to any organisation which manufactures, uses, stores or distributes flammable or oxidant gases
Production, storage, transport and supply of gases for use in food. Revision 2: 2015
Provides advice to producers and suppliers of food gases on how to comply with the Food Safety Regulations. Companies that supply gases for food use have to meet specific legal obligations and are required to ensure food safety. The Guidance Note includes coverage of the production and supply of food gases in bulk, the use of cylinders and other transportable receptacles, dry ice production and supply, and the supply or use of on-site gas generators.
BCGA policy and guidance for the safe filling of third-party owned and/or maintained tanks. Revision 2: 2013
This Guidance Note defines a gas supplier's responsibilities when intending to fill a third-party owned tank, used for the storage of refrigerated liquefied gases (typically nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide) at a customer's premises. A check sheet is provided to aid the gas suppliers in evaluating such tanks prior to supply and a reporting procedure is laid down for informing BCGA members of unsafe tanks.
Cryogenic sample storage systems (Biostores) - Guidance on design and operation. 2012
This document covers the design, installation and operation of systems used for the storage of items at cryogenic temperatures, using liquid nitrogen as a sacrificial refrigerant.
Guidance for BCGA training providers. Revision 1: 2014
The aim of this document is to provide guidance to Training Providers who are members or associate members of the BCGA on the provision of training services related to the safe use of compressed and cryogenic gases and associated equipment.
Environmental guidelines for air separation plant and equipment on sites regulated under IPPC. Revision 2: 2016
This document provides guidance for BCGA members to assist their customers with compliance on the EC Directive on Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control. The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations and the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations implement the Directive in the UK.
Gas safety. Information, Instruction and Training. Revision 1: 2018
Provides information on the topics which should be covered when considering gas safety training in the workplace. It is primarily for management and supervisors of personnel who either store, handle, use or transport gas cylinders and cryogenic gases.
Guidance on assessing the competency of personnel undertaking periodic inspection and testing of gas cylinders. 2015
Provides guidance on assessing the competency of personnel who are required to undertake periodic inspection and testing of gas cylinders. It explains the regulatory background and then provides extensive information on conducting an appropriate assessment.
Medical gas cylinders. Selection and maintenance of seals used on high pressure cylinders. 2013
Provides information on best practice for users of medical gas cylinders when they are connecting approved medical equipment to gas cylinders. It provides advice on non-pressure regulated cylinder valves, the selection of a suitable seal and the correct procedure for the preparation of connections prior to fitting them to a cylinder.
Guidance for the carriage of gas cylinders on vehicles. Revision 2: 2017
Provides guidance on safely transporting gas cylinders in order to comply with ADR and provides a method for calculating the threshold quantity for any gas cylinders being carried.
Guidance for packaging waste within the industrial gases industry. Revision 1: 2015
The UK has implemented the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations and the Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations (as amended). This Guidance Note provides advice on the obligations necessary when procuring refillable steel gas cylinders for companies to comply with these Regulations.
The safe use of gases in the beverage dispense industry. Revision 1 2017
Provides guidance to those who need to handle, use and store beverage gases. Addresses safety and operational issues associated with beverage gases, their use in cellars and beverage dispense pressure systems. The document covers cylinder identification, handling, use, corrosion prevention and product quality.
